Mugs 4 Masters is a fundraising campaign to help cover the costs of studying a Masters in Ceramics and Glass at the Royal College of Art in London, a numbered edition of 100 mugs fired my soda kiln, each one is unique in surface and has its edition number stamped into their base. Each mug is photographed from both sides to show their variation.

During the firing a soda mixture is introduced into the kiln, the soda becomes volatile and travels through the kiln along the path of the flames, melting on the surface of the pots as it passes. This type of firing creates truly unique objects, each one being different from the next and telling its own story from the firing.
Pieces fired in a soda kiln are fired on pieces of wadding or shells to ensure they don’t get fused to the kiln shelves, these leave little marks or scars on the base of the pots that are part of their charm.
These pieces are handmade and therefore will vary slightly from one to the next; this is part of what’s special about handmade objects. Dishwasher safe but always better to wash by hand.
