Thrown stoneware vase, fired in my soda kiln.
During the firing a soda mixture is introduced into the kiln, the soda becomes volatile and travels through the kiln along the path of the flames, melting on the surface of the pots as it passes. This type of firing creates truly unique objects, each one being different from the next and telling its own story from the firing.
Every side of the piece is different, all the photos are of the same pot.
Pieces fired in a soda kiln are fired on pieces of wadding or shells to ensure they don’t get fused to the kiln shelves, these leave little marks or scars on the pots that are part of their charm.
These pieces are handmade and therefore will vary slightly from one to the next; this is part of what’s special about handmade objects. Dishwasher safe but always better to wash by hand.
